Breed improvement?
One of the most difficult - and contentious - subjects is the breed improvement of the human race.
Consider the situation. You are a gambler who wants to back a horse. What is the first thing he does? Check on the dam and sire: for he believes that the most likely winner will have a dam and a sire who had histories of being winners themselves. Or you are a dairy farmer. Which heifers do you keep? Those whose mothers are the healthiest and best milkers and have been fertilized with the semen from the “top” bulls.
Of course, the gambler’s research might not result in his taking money from the bookmaker: and the heifer might prove disappointing when she becomes a cow.
But the principle - basically Darwinian (“survival of the fittest...”) does seem to be accepted when humans have the control over the breeding allowed in other animals to improve the quality of the breed or genus.
But the human race itself?
We get into trouble immediately here because of the Hitler policies: allow or encourage only the best, blondest true-bred Germanic people to procreate. But this is like blaming Beethoven or Wagner because their music was officially approved by the Nazis. Because someone distorts an idea doesn’t mean that the idea itself is wrong!
